DFG: Repression continues, 33 journalists in prison

AMED - Dicle Fırat Journalists' Association (DFG) announced that 4 journalists were subjected to investigations, 2 were threatened and 2 were prevented in August and 33 journalists are still in prison as of August. 
 
In the August Rights Violation Report, it was stated that journalists were subjected to investigations, prevented from following the news and access to websites was blocked. 
 
It is noted in the report that despite the judicial holiday in August, journalists were subjected to investigations. It was emphasised that the armed attack against the Izmir office of Evrensel newspaper should be clarified. In August, four journalists who drew attention to ecological destruction and reported on cases of harassment were investigated and 7 journalists were on trial. 
 
The report stated that one of the most prominent topics in August was access bans, and emphasised that access bans were imposed on X accounts of many newspapers and agencies, especially Kurdish publications. 
 
"As we celebrate World Peace Day, attacks against journalists continue unabated. On this occasion, we once again celebrate the World Peace Day and wish it to be instrumental for peace in which peoples all over the world live together. On this basis, we, journalists, see the march for peace and freedom as a duty and we call on you to enlarge this march."
 
VIOLATIONS
 
In the report, the data on pressures and violations against journalists are listed: "2 journalists and a newspaper building were attacked. 2 journalists were threatened, 2 journalists were prevented from following the news. 4 journalists were investigated. 7 journalists were put on trial in 5 separate cases. While 33 journalists were held in prisons, 13 journalists were dismissed. 8 publications were cancelled. 1 TV channel was sentenced to 5 programme suspensions and 5 days of blackout. 32 websites were closed down and access to 7 news articles was banned. 43 virtual media accounts and posts were blocked."
